Sketching the storyboards
We worked with the AAR to put together a cohesive sequence of storyboards that detailed the flow of the user experience from start to finish. As with every project, we started with minimally detailed sketches of objects, interactions, environments, and overviews of the player path.
Once the sketched storyboards were completed and approved, we then created a moodboard to help define the design direction for the colored concepts that would follow.
Polishing the concepts
The AAR virtual reality experience was delivered with high visual fidelity because they wanted participants to truly feel as though they were in the presence of a real locomotive train. We chose an art style that reflected this need for realism while working within the boundaries of performance limitations on the VR headsets.
These colored concepts were then reassembled into a revised storyboard where it was tested with potential users before beginning development of the application.
Delivering the experience
The final experience was delivered on a Samsung Odyssey headset, with a total of 8 VR headsets set up to provide an opportunity for all members of the public and congress to try the experience. In addition, we created a 4k 360 video experience that was published to Youtube for viewing via a mobile phone.
